Camden Studio

London 1993

Carving out a bright and airy workspace on backland site in Camden was the first phase of a mixed used development. It fits within the urban grain of terraced houses and narrow gardens, but offers a volume with a sense of light and space that terraced houses do not have. Glazed gables bring light in which is reflected onto the desks by the barrel vaulted roof and give long lateral views. Low level windows look onto a private courtyard. Within a small and constrained site the design balances light, privacy and ease of communication that contribute to a successful workspace.
