8-13 Casson Square

Waterloo, London

Southbank Place is a significant waterfront redevelopment of the historic Shell building site on London's South Bank by Braeburn Estates, a joint venture between Canary Wharf Group and Qatari Diar. Within this, 8-13 Casson Square is a 32-storey hybrid building that provides 301 mixed-tenure homes and commercial units above a London Underground ticket hall serving Waterloo Station.

The building is an important gateway to Southbank Place, drawing visitors from York Road and the ticket hall into the heart of the new neighbourhood. Like the Shell Tower, 8-13 Casson Square is a formal building with a strong vertical expression and defined base, middle and crown.

The complex, crafted organisation of the building's external appearance is expressed through a modular system of OSM unitised façade panels, abstractly studded with oriel windows. Portland Stone, roach stone detailing and bronze-toned metal accents were chosen in reference to London's heritage fabric.
