We set out to make Old Market Square one of Europe’s finest civic spaces. A truly effective city square must accommodate in the same space a wide range of uses – from the individual, and formal and informal social groupings – offering a common experience but also providing the potential for individual satisfaction.

We propose a single container for contrasting uses, with a variety of textures and levels, and the possibility of temporary or occasional structures to adapt it for different uses. The idea is to invite participation at all sort of levels to create shared experience, and makes use of technology to “lace” people together in the historic centre of the lace-making industry.
