Putney Wharf Riverside

Putney, London

Our Putney Wharf development for St George created a new public realm along the riverside that enhances the attractions of the apartments, draws pedestrians across the commercial frontages on the ground floor and adds greatly to local amenity space. Its sequence of spaces take in views across the river, provides slipway access to it and connecting back to Putney’s hinterland with a square, often used for farmers’ markets, which leads to the mediaeval church and High Street. The patina of open spaces continues through the development with private and semi-private courts and gardens, all helping to rebrand a long neglected piece of city.

What makes the development a striking success is the quality of the new public spaces that it has generated...the immaculately maintained riverside squares and gardens are a real public asset, an astute use of the planning system to provide gains for the whole community.
