Patel Taylor

The Olympic Delivery Agency appointed Patel Taylor in 2009 to produce a masterplan for the Athletes' Village as well as a set of codes that would guide the design of the village by seventeen architectural practices. We also worked on detailed proposals for two of the urban blocks generated alongside three other practices.

The codes describe the elements that make up the buildings ranging from nine to 24 storeys high and the spaces between them. Each practice designed parts of the block that could be treated as individual buildings.

The detailed design codes established a 'language' between the buildings which in turn define the character of the streets which they overlook.
