Patel Taylor with Hamilton’s were one of ten teams invited by developer Qatari Diar to reconsider the urban design and architectural approach to the 13ha Chelsea Barracks site.
We formed a team with different but complimentary approaches. Our approach was to consider in detail the settings – the streets, spaces and landscape – to make sure they would work as the ‘glue’ which would hold this major new neighbourhood together and support new functions.
We conceived a ‘design code’ – a set of manners – that would allow buildings to relate to each other across streets and spaces while providing variety and individual expression within a coherent urban design.
